A game which seemed to feature good defense by both squads resulted in Jefferson County’s advancing to the finals for the second straight year with a 46-38 win over Upperman in Monday night’s tourney semifinals.

The Patriots third quarter defense was especially smothering, holding the Bees to only three points in the quarter and allowing them to take a lead which they would not give up in the final quarter.

Jefferson didn’t light up the scoreboard either in the third, but their eight points gave them a 27-23 lead. Upperman could never get closer than that margin down the stretch.

Makayla Alvey led Jeff with 13 points and eight rebounds. Cayla Smith scored 12 and Alexa Gramann added 10.

Upperman shot 28 percent from the field for the game. They were led by Reagan Hurst with 17 points.
