In the tournament’s first overtime game, Greeneville’s Lady Devils downed Archer (Ga.) in a 73-67 thriller.

The Lady Devils staged a furious second half rally to get back in the game after scoring only two free throws in the second quarter and seeing Archer go on an 18-0 run to take a 26-17 halftime lead.

The Devils finally got even at 37-37 late in the third and went into the final quarter leading by a point at 40-39.

The final quarter was a see-saw affair. Archer went up by five, only to see the Devils rally back to take a 48-47 lead. Another 6-0 run by Archer put them up 53-48, but again the Devils rallied, taking the lead at 56-55 on two free throws by Linda Carter. Taniya McGowan scored two free throws with 20 seconds left to tie the game at 58-58, and Greeneville missed two shots to win it in the final seconds of regulation.

Two free throws by Carter to start the extra period gave the Devils the lead for keeps, hitting 9-of-12 free throws in overtime.

Freshmen Lauren Bailey and Carter both had big games, scoring 22 and 20 respectively to lead the Devils. They also had double figures rebounding as Carter had 12 and Bailey 11. Chloe Marsh added 13 points and Delana DeBusk scored 10.

The Tigers were paced by Cazioa Nelson with 23 and Ashanti Bryant and Taniya McGowman 14 each.

Greeneville will play East Hamilton Monday at noon.
