Another big scoring night for Kate Harpring, and another win for Marist as the defending tournament champs will have a chance for a repeat performance in the finals after beating Spring Valley of West Virginia 58-36 in the first semifinal game Monday night.
Harpring poured in 38 points and needs only 19 points in the finals to become the all-time leading scorer in the star-studded history of the Ladies Classic, which is celebrating its 35th year.
The War Eagles of Marist got off to a good start and were never seriously threatened after taking an 18-10 first quarter lead and a 35-16 advantage at the half.
Harpring, facing double-team and sometimes triple-team pressure all night, didn’t seem fazed, grabbing 13 rebounds to go along with her 38 points. She also had four assists and four steals. Katie Elder led the supporting cast with 10 points and six assists.
The Lady Wolves of Spring Valley got 11 points each from Sophie Hutchison and Allie Daniels
The Wolves will play in the third place game at 3:30 Tuesday.
