Cocke County used an 11-2 run over the first six minutes of the final period to break open a tight game with J.L. Mann (S.C.) and moved on to Tuesday’s round with a 48-36 win.

The Lady Red had just scored the final bucket of the third quarter to take their biggest lead of the game at 35-28 before going on the streak in the fourth, using their defense to put the skids on the Mann offense.

The Lady Red got a stellar performance from Karmine Carmichael, who scored 17 points, got six rebounds, three blocked shots and dished out four assists. No other Cocke County girl hit double figures but the balanced squad got nine from Brooklyn Clevenger.

J.L. Mann was led by Olivia McKinney with 12 points and Jade Hailstock with 10. A key member of the offensive attack, Imari Richardson, went down with an apparent ankle sprain in the second quarter and did not return to the floor.

Cocke County will compete in the sixth place game on Tuesday at 12:30.
