Just when it looked as if Greeneville was going to win easily, the game turned into anything but a breeze.

The Lady Greene Devils saw a lead of as much as 17 points in the third quarter evaporate, but they had enough in the tank to pull out an exciting 64-59 victory over the Cleveland Blue Raiders in quarterfinal action Thursday night.

The win pushes Greeneville into the tournament semifinals, where they will take on Knox Catholic Friday at 7:30 p.m. Cleveland will play Thomas Dale (Va.) in the 1:30 p.m. game.

With phenomenal 3-point shooting in the third period, when they hit five long ones, three by Lindy Carter, the Devils built a 48-31 cushion after leading at intermission by a 30-23 count. It was 53-38 heading into the final period.

But here came Cleveland with their rally. They began finding the range from deep and the lead stood at 58-54 with just 2:54 remaining.

A layup by Milah Williams cut it to 58-56, but the Devils got two free throws from Anna Shaw and another from Lauren Bailey to push the lead to 61-56 with 1:10 left. A 3-pointer by Emma Smith at the 38 second mark cut it to 62-59, but the Raiders would get no closer and Lauren Bailey iced it with a pair of free tosses with four seconds to go.

Carter hit for 19 points to pace GHS while Tambryn Ellenburg threaded in four 3-pointers and scored 14. Bailey and Chloe Marsh each hit double figures with 11. Anna Shaw dished out six assists.

Cleveland was led by Addison Hurst with 16 points while Lauren Hurst scored 10.
