Showing the same grit that they showed last year in the Ladies Classic, the Cocke County girls rallied from 10 points down in the third quarter to rally down the stretch and earn a thrilling 63-60 win over David Crockett in a showdown of two upper East Tennessee powers.

The Lady Red slowly chipped away at the deficit and got victory within reach before finally gaining the lead with 1:05 left when Blakely Clevenger swished through a 3-pointer with 1:05 left in the game to go up 61-60. Cocke County got the ball back after a Crockett missed shot and Brooklyn Clevenger was fouled with 18 seconds to go and threaded the needle on both freebies.

Crockett got the final shot and missed the contested attempt to tie as the final horn sounded to end the game.

The Pioneers led by 22-10 after one quarter and 39-29 at intermission, and still were in command at 49-40 entering the decisive final period.

Karmine Carmichael scored 20 points and yanked off 16 rebounds to lead the Lady Red. Blakelyn Clevenger scored 17 and Ava Wheeler scored 11.

The Pioneers got a game-high 21 points from Brylee Tullock, 14 from Kayleigh Doner and 10 from Laney Britton. They were without the services of starting post Aaliyah Story.
