(Game 16) J.L. MANN (SC) 78, DANIEL BOONE 76 (OT)

Daniel Boone’s Andrea Flores scored 40 points but it wasn’t enough for the Lady Blazers to stop J.L. Mann of South Carolina, who pulled out an exciting 78-76 overtime victory.

The tight game had J.L. Mann in command by seven points at 64-57 with just over three minutes to go in regulation, but Boone came storming from behind, taking the lead at 67-66 with about a minute left on a bucket from Flores, who scored 12 points in the fourth.

Mann’s Jade Hailstock made the first of two free throws with 31 seconds to go to tie the game at 69, then a rebound putback by Flores on her own missed shot boosted the Blazers ahead with 12 seconds to go. But Boone couldn’t stop Imari Richardson from scooting down the floor and getting into the paint for a short jumper to tie the game as the horn sounded to end regulation.

Mann got the upper hand at the outset of the extra period with six unanswered points to go up 77-71. But in the final minute Boone again rallied behind Flores, who hit four straight foul shots to cut the gap to 77-76 with 25 seconds left. A turnover by Mann gave Boone the ball back, but they returned the favor with a miscue of their own. Hailstock was fouled and went to the line with :07 left, made the first, missed the second, and Boone got the carom but couldn’t get a shot off before the extra frame ended.

Hailstock turned in a 29 point effort to lead the winners, while Olivia McKinney and Breah Franks each scored 16 and Richardson added a dozen.

Ella Wilson scored 16 to go along with Flores’ 40-point show.
