(Game 13) Marist (Ga.) 60, David Crockett 53

It was obvious why Kate Harpring has so many college coaches drooling over the possibility of obtaining her talents for their programs.

The Marist (Ga.) junior, one of the top recruits in the country, put on a show probably not witnessed at the Ladies Classic since the days of Katie Smrcka-Duffy as she poured in 45 points in leading Marist to a 60-53 win over David Crockett.

The 45 points was the second most points ever scored in a Ladies Classic game, eclipsed only by a lady named Patricia Nash of Neshoba, Miss., who scored 51 back in 1990. She also had 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals.

David Crockett, unbeaten on the season coming into the contest, was a worthy opponent and took the fight to the tournament defending champion right to the final minute. The Lady Pioneers led most of the first half and Marist finally pushed into a 48-45 advantage by the close of the third. Crockett closed to 50-49 with 2:37 left and still very much had a chance to win the game.

But a 3-pointer by Harpring boosted the score to 54-49 with less than two minutes left as Marist did a good job of working time off the clock.

No other Marist player scored more than four points.

Crockett got 20 points from Kayleigh Doner, 12 from Brylee Tullock and 10 from Lacey Byrd.
