Cocke County advanced in the loser’s bracket of the tournament with a 62-51 victory over JL Mann of South Carolina.
The Lady Red of Newport got a double-double from Karmine Carmichael with 21 points and 14 rebounds in the victory. She was aided by a solid 15 points from Blakelyn Clevenger.
JL Mann got three in double figures, with Jade Hailstock scoring 16, Annie Gilliam 14 and Imari Richardson 12.
Cocke County went up 18-15 after one quarter and led 31-22 at halftime. Mann managed to hang around and the fourth quarter started with the Newport girls leading by only eight at 52-44.
Back-to-back buckets from Carmichael and Brooklyn Clevenger put the Red up 56-44 and the South Carolinians could get no closer than seven down the stretch.
