Morristown West made a game which seemed out of reach in the third quarter interesting down the stretch, but the Greeneville Lady Devils held on for a 60-51 win over the Lady Trojans Friday morning.
Greeneville held a 23-point advantage at 50-27 late in the third quarter, and was up 50-31 entering the fourth, but the Trojans went on a 16-4 run during a six minute span of the final quarter to cut the gap to 54-48 with 2:29 to go.
But the Lady Devils survived the surge. Anna Shaw converted two foul shots, and after a West turnover, Abby Adkins hit a layup and was fouled, made the foul shot and the lead grew back to 59-48, and pretty well sewed things up.
Greeneville led 13-7 after one quarter and 33-19 at halftime, then stretched the lead in the third before West began their rally.
Jordan Swatzell was red hot from the perimeter for the Devils, knocking down six 3-pointers and finishing with 18 points. Adkins also scored 18 and made it a double-double with 14 rebounds. Kyla Jobe netted 11. Anna Shaw had 12 rebounds.
The Trojans got 16 points from Delaney Weddington with Jhaniya Mitchell and Aubrie Messer each netting 11.
