Cocke County had become the “Cinderella” story of the Ladies Classic after pulling off two wins the past couple of days that would be considered upsets by most observers, but the Lady Red were unable to pull off another one Thursday as Jackson Southside took a 48-36 hard-earned victory.
The Lady Hawks broke free from a slender 12-11 first quarter lead to race to a 35-18 halftime advantage. But the Lady Red refused to go away quietly. They kept battling and got the deficit down to 12 points in the fourth quarter but were unable to get any closer and Jackson prevailed.
The Hawks got 18 points from Kimora Currie, including five 3-pointers, and eight points each from Jaidynn Askins and Felicity Long.
Cocke County shot only 23 percent for the night and was led by Adison McNealy with eight points.
Cocke County will play again Friday at 1:30 p.m., while the Hawks advance to the tournament semifinals for the 7:30 p.m. contest Friday.
