The Hawks of Jackson Southside broke from a 50-50 tie with 1:16 left in the game to score the final five points and defeat the Morristown West Trojans 55-50 Wednesday.

The Hawks (9-3)  led the vast majority of the game, but could not put away the Trojans who came from a nine-point (45-36) deficit early in the fourth period with a rally to close to within 47-45. They eventually tied the contest at 50-50 on two free throws by Aubrie Messer with 1:16 left.

But two costly turnovers down the stretch gave Southside a chance to put Rikiya Mitchell and Akira Lacy at the free throw line, where both sank a pair of free tosses, to give the Jackson squad a  lead they would not relinquish.

Jaidynn Askins scored 19 points and six rebounds to pace the winners. Mitchell added nine. Akira Lacy had eight points and four assists with four steals.

Morristown West (6-6) was led by Jhaniya Mitchell with 12 points and eight boards. Kaylee Dyke had 11 points with four assists, while Messer scored 11 and grabbed eight rebounds.
