Upperman and Elizabethton staged a 3-point shooting contest in Day 2’s first game Wednesday as the Lady Bees from Baxter captured a 63-54 win in a loser’s bracket game.
The two teams threw up a total of 44 3-pointers in the game, with Upperman hitting 10 and Betsy 9. Taylor Dolente hit 5 for the winners and finished with 15 points, second in scoring to Gracie Butler who tallied 19 points, five assists and nine rebounds. Korra Bass chipped in with 11 points and had four assists.
Elizabethton got 11 points and seven rebounds from Kayelyn Nave and nine points each from Michelle Shields, Peyton McGee and Jamira Smalls in a balanced offensive attack.
The Bees went up 30-19 at halftime but the Cyclones quickly carved that down to 33-30 with two minutes gone in the third when Shields knocked down a 3-pointer. A quick time out by Upperman settled things and with Dolente hitting three long ones the rest of the period the Bees recovered and led 47-37 at the horn.
Elizabethton stayed within striking distance but could get no closer than six points in the final period.
Upperman improves to 12-2 on the year.
