The Lady Spartans of Webb School in Knoxville controlled the second half and moved to a 65-47 win over the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones in the tournament’s opener Tuesday afternoon.
Leading by a slender 28-25 margin at halftime, Webb began to pull away in the third quarter when they outscored the Cyclones 22-9, thanks to some turnovers by Betsy and 3-point shots that hadn’t been falling in the first half for the Spartans began to find the mark.
Meeyah Green scored 16 points, had five rebounds and five assists to pace the winners (10-4). Brooklyn Bush and Kyndall Mays each hit double digit scoring with 10 points. Webb controlled a 28-20 margin in rebounding.
Elizabethton was led by Michelle Shields with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and three assists. Marlee Mathena finished with nine points, four rebounds and three blocked shots.
