The Alcoa Lady Tornadoes are the champions of the 2022 Andrew Johnson Bank Ladies Classic, holding off Knox Catholic 58-47 Saturday night in a hard-fought title tilt at Hal Henard Gymnasium.

Leading by a slender 26-24 margin at halftime and 36-35 at the start of the final quarter, Alcoa outscored the Irish 22-12 down the stretch to take the tournament title.

Karli Haworth led the way for the Tornadoes with 24 points while Amelia Pfeiffer scored 10.

A 3-point play by Caroline Krueger of Catholic tied the score at 38-38 with about 6 minutes left to play, then Alcoa erupted for a 9-0 run that put some distance between them and their rivals. Catholic could get no closer than five the rest of the way.

The Irish were led by Sydney Mains with 19 points, including three 3-pointers which set the tournament record for 3-pointers made with 23. Jazmin Williams scored 11.
