Coalfield’s Yellow Jackets came away with a hard-earned 62-56 win over North Hardin, Ky.
The lead changed hands a number of times in this one after Hardin led 31-30 at halftime. The lead see-sawed throughout the third before Hardin held on to their slender two-point lead at 45-43.
Coalfield’s Mattie Beard knocked down a 3-pointer to start the fourth and put the Jackets up 46-45. It was knotted again at 46 before the Jackets went on a 9-0 spurt to give them a 55-46 lead midway through the period.
North Hardin answered with a 10-2 run of their own which got them right back into it and they trailed by only 57-56 with 1:22 left.
A free throw by Lily Wright made it 58-56 in favor of the Jackets, with Hardin missing their next two field goal attempts and Wright put it away by going 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in the final minute.
Wright finished with 26 points, eight rebounds and five assists to pace the winners. Beard scored 14 and Lillyclaire Lowe added 11.
North Hardin was paced by Alanah Dubose with 22 points, Jackie Brewer with 10 and Lily White with 10 points and 17 rebounds.
