Farmington’s Cardinals from Arkansas got a tournament best (thus far) 37 points from sophomore ace Easton McCollough and knocked off Alcoa’s Tornadoes 72-61 Saturday night.
The Cardinals, appearing here at the Classic for the second straight season, turned in a solid second quarter, turning an 18-18 tie after one period into a 45-33 lead at halftime.
In addition to McCollough’s 37 points, she flirted with a triple-double as she garnered seven rebounds and nine assists. Sadie Morrison also had a big game with 19 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Alcoa (8-4) was led by Brylee Flatt with 17 points while Gwen Carroll scored 15 and yanked off 12 rebounds. Alcoa cut the deficit to single digits midway of the third when they closed to 51-42, but they could get no closer the rest of the way.
