George Rogers Clark of Kentucky came out firing on all cylinders Friday and won with relative ease 72-50 over the Irish of Knox Catholic.
Playing with great intensity, the Cardinals raced out to a 19-9 first period lead and never let off the gas at all in the second frame, outscoring Catholic 24-6 to take a commanding 43-15 halftime lead. The Irish played much better in the second half, but the big lead was too much to overcome.
Four Cardinals reached double figures. Jaileen Green scored 18, Teigh Yeast had 17, Ciara Byars tallied 16 plus eight assists and seven rebounds, and Kennedy Stamper chipped in 13.
Catholic’s Sydney Maines fired in 25 points for the Irish. Maggia Frana had 13 rebounds with seven points.
George Rogers Clark will play Cocke County for fifth place Saturday.
