Mercy Academy of Louisville, Ky., held off Greeneville 53-49 in the night’s finale at Hal Henard Gym.

The Jaguars got 17 points and five assists from Abby Reitzel, 14 points from Addyson Becker, and 10 points and five steals from Peyton Arnold.

Greeneville answered with 16 points from Kyla Jobe, while Anna Shaw had 10 points and five assists, and Maria Lydia scored 10 and grabbed nine rebounds.

Mercy led the entire way, but Greeneville kept it close. A 13-point lead by the Jaguars at the half (36-23) was cut to 43-39 by the third quarter’s end. A 3-point play by GHS’s Maria Lydia closed it to 43-42, but Mercy would not let the host team gain the lead. The game stayed close throughout the final period with the Devils closing to 48-46 with 1:53 left.

Again the Jags refused to fold. They got a rebound putback from Peyton Arnold to get a 50-46 lead with less than a minute left, and the Devils were just unable to get the buckets at the right time in the final minute.
