Knox Catholic’s Lady Irish, who finished last year’s Ladies Classic as the runnerup, took their first step toward returning to championship night with a 75-47 win over South Greene Wednesday night before a good crowd in Hal Henard Gymnasium.
The good-shooting Irish hit 11 3-pointers on the night, led by Tinsley Walker with 27 points including seven long ones. She was 7-of-10 from deep. Walker also came up with five steals. Caroline Krueger knocked down 13 points, while Andrea Flores had 11 points and seven assists.
South Greene got 12 points and six rebounds from Hailey Brooks. Arianna Hoese scored nine and Kortnei Bailey added eight. Emma Cutshall had six assists.
The Rebels were able to hang around early, trailing by only 8-7 at the first rest stop. But a 19-7 run in the second quarter propelled the Irish into a 27-14 halftime lead, and the advantage continued to grow in the third quarter as the Irish hit 11-of-22 from behind the arc on the night.
The Irish improve to 13-2 and the Rebs fall to 10-3.
